As footsteps traverse the forest floor, brightly colored leaves trickle from the hardwoods, swirling deep down into the secluded hollows. A gentle thermal slides up the slope, the soft touch elevates the soul. Once atop Western New York’s highest point, temporary trail signs loom ahead explaining the history of the massive rock formations, noting flora and fauna specimens, and historical artifacts. RidgeWalk & Run is one of the area’s largest and certainly one of the most totally unique fall active lifestyle events.

24th Annual

October 16, 2016

Text Box: Western New York’s premier outdoor family fun event!

A Message from the RidgeWalk & Run Team…
Join us Sunday, October 16th for the 24th Annual RidgeWalk & Run event located in beautiful Southwestern, New York State.  It takes place each fall as the hillsides are turning into a kaleidoscope of rich reds, oranges and yellows.  The RidgeWalk & Run encompasses many events so if you are looking for a causal stroll through the woods or if you prefer a competitive long run, we are just what you are looking for.

Up to 1,100 participants complete in one of the many events that are offered at the RidgeWalk & Run. Whether you are looking to take a two mile relaxing walk through the woods or compete in the 15 mile timed trail run, we have it all!  Our event concludes on a gorgeous horse farm with festivities that include door prizes, music, lunch, and kids’ activities. This year’s events are as follows:

2 Mile Scenic Walk      2 Mile Guided Trail Walk         6 Mile Walk                   9 Mile Walk

5K Competitive Run     10K Competitive Run                15 Mile Walk                 15 Mile Competitive Run

Enter early! “Our highly acclaimed amenity bags with shirts, water bottles, and caps are given to the first 900 participants!”

Looking for something to do on Saturday, October 15th?  Join us from 6-8 pm at the Wellsville County Club “Grill” for our Pre-Event Dinner where you will have the opportunity to eat to your hearts content on pasta buffet, Caesar  salad, and desserts all while listening to guest speaker Dr. David Horton.

Proceeds from the RidgeWalk & Run are used by the Jones Memorial Wellness Committee, where every year a project of interest is chosen with the purpose of promoting community health and wellness.  In 2016, we are working on a Complete Streets Project with the Town and Village of Wellsville (lead agency), DEC, DOT, Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, and other federal agencies. The purpose of this project is to create a safe walking/running environment by extending the sidewalk along the Genesee River in front of the Riverwalk Plaza, crossing under the bridge on the Bolivar Road, connecting to the sidewalk on the north side. Due to the complexity of this project, permits will need to be filed and additional fund raising events will occur. We anticipate this project to be completed in 2017. This plan includes placing informational kiosks in town that will have walking trails and distances listed for a variety of walking loops. These maps will also show access to WAG and Upper Allegany trails and water access points.

Additional information can be found by liking “Ridgewalk & Run” on Facebook. We look forward to seeing you on the trails!
